Linda attended a jewelry function today (26th April) after recently returning to Hong Kong from Canada. Linda revealed that she celebrated her birthday with her family and friends in Canada. Reporters ask if her friends around have already gotten married, and she replied saying, “Many of them are already married, some of them are even considering having their second child, but of course there are some who are still single.”

Reporters ask if her family is rushing her to get married, and Linda said, “My mum does not rush me actually, but it is my friends who are rushing me instead, asking me to get married quickly, recalling times during my secondary school days where we would guess who would be the first to get married. At that time, they guess that I would be the one who will get married first, as I was rather soft spoken and they considered me to be the most dependent and reliant one. But now I’m not sure if I’ll be the last one *cries*”.

Reporters question again if she ever thought about getting married with Phillip Ng, she said, “This rumour has been spread for many years, and has been said for so many times, so I don’t have anything special to respond this time. I guess it’s because Daddy Good Deeds was airing, and thus a wide range of news will surface during that time. However, after I’ve been in this industry I’ve learnt to accept this sort of news. It doesn’t matter; I’ll just treat it as promotion for this drama, and also free promotion for myself considering that I’ve been away from Hong Kong for the past month. I don’t have to go for interviews, haha.”

Reporters continue to discuss Phillip Ng, asking “so what is the relationship between the both of you now?” Linda says that “It is still a peaceful relationship. As for our relationship in our private lives I don’t wish to respond too much about it, as it is not important. I believe that in relationships between me and my friends or my family, it is ok that only both parties understand.”

In the film, Chilam and Annie has a lot of intense and passionate kiss scenes, they both gave an advanced notice that there will be a lot of intense kiss and bed scenes. Chilam said: "The director wanted to shoot the scenes in several angles, so we had a lot of takes. (Did you two kiss over 100 times?) I didn't count, but we didn't have to brush our teeth or any other prep work prior, just naturally went into the scene and had no embarrassment." He expressed after his son Morton saw the film, he asked why his is father kissing other girls, so he had to explain to him that it's "for work".

Annie expressed she was troubled by her life 'weakness' in this film: "When I was young, I had an extreme difficult time with vomiting milk, so that left a shadow in me. Even when I got older, I avoided drinking any milk or foods with cream. In the film, Chilam had to feed me cake to eat, and once I saw the cake I wanted to vomit. It is harder than doing kiss scenes." Chilam disclosed he has a phobia in being in closed spaces, so he can't shoot scenes where he's in a casket.

TVB Siu Sang Kenneth Ma was shooting for an all new advertisement for a skincare center and has made a breakthrough in his usual style. Kenneth had on a tuxedo accompanied by a bow tie and curly hair. This is a style he has never tried before and even he shouted: "Turns out I could have a curly hair too, truly a breakthrough! Although at first I wasn't really used to it, but its getting better as I look at it. I love it!" It is clear that Kenneth cares more about his beauty than before. During the photo shoot, he was constantly looking in the mirror, afraid his hair would get messed up. When asked if he wants to attract more fans? He said: "Indeed, I care more about my beauty than in the past because I understand appearance is very important to an artist. As for if I can attract the opposite and more fans, that would be a bonus!"

Also, this year Kenneth's career has been doing well, but he personally feels he lacks rumors, otherwise he could be even more famous. Since Kenneth's debut, he had rumors with Margie Tsang, Kate Tsui, Nancy Wu and other female stars, but he expressed: "Everyone is afraid of rumors, but I'm afraid I don't have enough rumors. Myolie Wu, Linda Chung, Bobby Au Yeung and the rest of the cast of TVB new series House of Harmony and Vengeance took part in the promotional event yesterday. Myolie was asked why isn't her costume as revealing as the one seen on the poster? Myolie joked and said her costume isn't as sexy as the others: "You know I am someone who has 'material' [on the chest]! But I was too ashamed to ask the crew to make me a low-cut costume." When taking group photos, Myolie suddenly did a split and instantly stole the limelight from Linda. During the interview, Myolie half-joked: "Back then during the dance rehearsals for Strictly Come Dancing, I learned to do the splits from then. While shooting this series, my assistant helped me with the muscle warm-ups every day to practice. In the series, we were pretending to have outstanding dancing skills in hope to deceive viewers. Perhaps my Tang Dynasty costume isn't as sexy as Linda's, but I am still a person with 'material'. I really wanted to dress like the palace maids in Curse of the Golden Flower, but after all the 'push' is useless, so I could only leave Linda responsible [in that area]." As for good friend Kevin Cheng said to have had a 'dark face' (bad attitude) while filming? Myoile supported him: "He has dark skin, but he is serious towards his work. Back then when I was on Strictly Come Dancing with him, he did not smile at all for 3 whole months, so I think there might be some misunderstanding."

Linda Chung smiled and said she wants to be as sexy as the "Golden Armor (黃金甲)", but she fears Bobby Au Yeung might have a nose bleed. When asked if she or Myolie has more 'material'? Linda said: "Same size! Myolie and I are very similar!"

Bobby claimed his role is just like a flower vase because the attention is focused on their female artists' dancing and singing. He even exposed that there were a large group of male artists in the studios next door, often coming to take a 'peek' while they were shooting the dancing scenes, including Raymond Lam. Regarding Myolie's comment that the actresses all had sexy costumes? Bobby disagreed: "They all taped their costumes tightly, even if they bend down, there won't be any exposure. Also, there is the television scale factor, it won't be too over. In the series Linda and the other girls are very hard working, learning and shooting at the same time. As for the ratings, I'm not feeling too pressured."

Stephen Au and his wife (Phyllis Man) were married for 15 years, but separated for 3.5 years due to the difference in personality. Yesterday the couple were married for the second time at the Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary. Although Stephen and his wife are already an old married couple, they still appeared very loving to the people before them. When they were saying their vows, they teared up from being so emotional. Stephen even attentively helped his wife wipe away her tears.

When the couple shared their feelings the guests, Stephen said: "We were married 15 years ago, and in between we separated and got back together. It's a rare chance that someone marries the same person two times. Marrying for the second time, I am even more serious and nervous than the first time." Stephen already lifted the bride's veil before signing the marriage certificate, and was teased by the priest that he's too hurried.

Patrick Tang and Katy Kung attended Stephen's marriage ceremony as a couple. Patrick said he deeply felt touched and hopes his love life could be just as sweet as theirs. When asked if he has any plans for marriage too? He laughed and said he's getting older and it's about time, but first he has to save enough money for marriage.

Last year, TVB artists Yoyo Chen and Vincent Wong carefully chose their wedding date to contain eight ones (11/11/2011 @ 11am). Following the marriage, Yoyo announced her pregnancy and lived a secluded life since, awaiting to welcome a new life into the world. All along, Yoyo hoped to have a natural delivery, and often practiced her breathing by doing simple exercises at the park. However, the other day when she went for her pregnancy checkup, there were signs that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. The soon-to-be parents were extremely worried, but immediately followed the doctor's suggestions and went into labor right away via C-section to ensure the safety of the baby.

Yesterday morning, Yoyo was accompanied by Vincent into the delivery room and went into labor half a month early then the expected due date. Fortunately everything went smoothly, Yoyo gave birth to a 6 pounds, 2 ounces baby girl yesterday morning at 9 am. The baby girl is considered light, but she is healthy. In the next several days, Yoyo can also be discharged from the hospital.

Becoming a father, Vincent, was extremely nervous when he left the hospital and couldn't sleep at all. When he personally help his daughter cut the umbilical cord, he was so nervous his hands were shaking. When asked which one of the parents (Yoyo or Vincent) does his daughter resemble more of? Vincent smiled sweetly: "Both! Her eyes are big and lots of hair, just like her mom. Her ears also resemble mom. She has long hands and legs, that is like me! (Have you given her a name yet?) Fung Shui Master Lee Ching Chak will be responsible for that."

As a father for the first time, Vincent expressed he was very emotional and teared up. However, when he witnessed his beloved daughter coming into this world, he felt that it was all worth it: "I was so touched, my eyes were watery. I was video taping the entire process in the delivery room. Watching my daughter born, my fatherly love came right out. My wife is usually really afraid of getting shots, she grabbed onto my hands the entire time and was shaking, while I kept giving her encouragement and support. (How will you reward your wife?) I plan to give her a car, convenient to take our daughter to school in the future."

When asked if the couple has plans to have more babies? Vincent expressed to let nature take its course: "I saw how difficult it was for my wife, I feel reluctant too, but if we can bear the burden, then we are willing to have another child!" In the recent month, Vincent had to work, and will start a new series next month. However, he smiled and said he has been practicing baby caring skills all along: "Feeding milk or changing the diapers, these fundamentals isn't hard for me, but my wife is going into deep research, she's gonna teach me! I've been pretty busy lately, so I've told the producer to give me some time to be with my wife and daughter, hope to have more time together."

Last year Leila Tong became a mother and in just a blink of an eye, her daughter is already 1 year old. Although she usually has to look after her daughter and work at the same time, she enjoys this kind of life. She said: "My time management is fine, my personal time and work schedule is pretty ok. If I don't have to work, I would take care of my daughter myself, but when I have to work, I leave her with a babysitter." She frankly expressed when she first had to part from her daughter, she felt uncomfortable: "At first, I really missed her and sometimes I would look at her photos. One time, I had to leave HK for several weeks, I was so reluctant to leave my daughter behind. However, now with the advanced technology, I can see her any time over the internet and this actually helps me concentrate more on work. Then, I'm able to get off work earlier and get home to see my daughter sooner."

Leila teaches her daughter each and every day as she grows, she said: "Currently there are a lot of things that starts from zero, like I would teach my daughter to wash her hands after using the restroom, let her get used to it. She is starting to talk, but whatever she sees, she would shout Daddy, it's really funny." She also reveals her daughter is a girl that can really eat, especially the milk powder brand Illuma. She has to have greater portions of it: "She can really eat, perhaps because the formula I'm using is really good, giving her some appetite. My daughter is quite heavy now."

Also, Leila has switched over to Ricky Wong's CTI and will be starting a new series later this month. It's been a long while since she's been in a series, so she is very excited and anxious at the same time. She said: "I've been 'hungry' for a period of time because I stopped shooting series several years already. Fans are worried I'm only doing theater and won't do TV series anymore. This year I'll get back to shooting TV series, very happy and excited." She wants to let audience see the mature side of her, she said: "I was too limited in the last 10 years, many people think I'm a little girl, so I hope to portray roles that are more mature."

It was rumored Kevin Cheng had a nasty attitude and pretended to be a Big Brother while shooting TVB series Gloves Come Off. He treated the other artists rudely. His co-stars Kenny Wong and Nancy Wu attended an environmental friendly car promotional event and defended the TV King.

Kenny denied that Kevin was trying to pretend to be the Big Brother: "Why would he be older than me? I am older. When we were shooting the boxing scenes, we both had suggestions and opinions to share. I had suggestions too and perhaps there is some misunderstanding there." He expressed they often joke around and are in good terms. He has also never heard of anyone cussing out someone, the most rough language used was : "You bad boy, hit so hard."

Nancy also didn't believe Kevin was pretending to be a Big Brother. Instead, she greatly praised Kevin for becoming more open in the recent years and isn't as cool as before. "Perhaps there are some scenes is gets really agitated, and that caused the misunderstanding. Kevin has become more open in the recent years, often joking with us all. He even smiles more often now." It was rumored Sin Ying Ho [and Gregory Lee's father Sing Yeh] said Kevin was pretending to be a Big Brother, Nancy does not believe Master Sin would say such thing.

Nancy praised the attractive 5-seater new model. It was said a 5-seater is not enough for her 7 rumored boyfriends. Nancy laughed: "Just shove the other two in the back trunk. In fact, among the 7 rumored boyfriends, only Deep Ng and Kenneth Ma were true!"

TVB's Mr. Hong Kong Contest has stirred up many controversial topics in the previous years. This year, TVB announces the show will be put on hiatus for a year and when the show comes back, the direction of the contest must be clearly thought out first.

TVB's Director of Production Sandy Yu expressed yesterday the Mr. HK hiatus decision was made when she returned to TVB. "Since the first Mr. Hong Kong in 2005, this is the 7th year. There has been a lot of reactions in society, I don't know if the future of Mr. HK Contest will be high or low, meaning if there is going to be any 'explosions', entertainment or elegance. Since there is no balance between poor taste and elegance, then why not go on hiatus." She believes there are many other shows that could be produced, and what she really wants to produce is a contest for the heroes in law enforcement: "Like the firefighters or police officers that are heroes in the hearts of audience. I've mentioned this idea to a related party before, but the person thought I was joking. I will try my best to make it happen."

When speaking of Ricky Wong poaching the TVB staff, Sandy reveals TVB will be hosting a large-scale recruiting event in the summer to train new talents. As for poaching her old iCable colleagues? Sandy expressed: "I don't dare to say, but if possible, probably would go for it."

Matthew Ko was the first Mr. HK, followed by Francois Huynh, Benjamin Yuen, William Chak and last year's Clayton Li. However the group of Mr. HK winners have just had a mediocre career development, no one has made a breakthrough yet.

Yesterday Ron Ng appeared with a wig for the shooting of the beer brand BLUE ICE printed Ad. Since his last commercial appearance in 2005, where he said 'Mai Fei Fat' (My Favorite), Ron was criticized to have poor English and hasn't been seen on a HK commercial until today. Yesterday he and a Western photographer were working together on the shoot and had no problem communicating. He said: "I don't have a fear to speak English, I can still communicate with Westerners. If anything gets too difficult, I will go ask someone to help me. (Help wash away the 'Mai Fei Fat'?) I didn't say it wrong, that time the Boss allowed the commercial to go on air because he thought it was fine. (Rumored girlfriend Viann Zhang helped you improve your Mandarin?) We communicate using Mandarin, but I learned my Mandarin from my assistant. (When will you announce Viann's identity?) Huh? Work comes first, when the time is right, I will say it. (When you decide to get married?) Earn enough money for marriage first. If can't wait, then I'll just go find someone else."

When speaking of TVB music producer Tang Chi Wai's concert ticket sales aren't doing too well, Ron said: "I don't think so right? There are so many singers in on it together. When Raymond [Lam] has his concert, it gets extreme. I trust Tang Chi Wai has his abilities and talents. (Singer Roy Chow said he won't go to the concert if the tickets are free?) Each individual have their own choices, but my family was fighting for the tickets, I purchased 10-20 tickets myself. (Treat Viann Zhang to the concert?) Tell her to buy her own ticket!"

Kenneth Ma attended a fashion store opening yesterday. Regarding ex-girlfriend Nancy Wu called the "New Generation Flirt" ('Hau Jing'), constantly putting out the 'sparks', Kenneth supported and defined his ex: "It's just for the latest series promotions. (You seem to be really paying attention to Nancy?) That series (Gloves Come Off) has Kevin Cheng in it too, of course I have to watch. I do, however, know that Nancy has a very challenging role in this series, as the mute/deaf female boxer. (Will you mind if you're used as promotions?) I don't mind, there needs to be some noise when a series is out. As long as it's not too over, then it's fine. However, I feel it's hard for Nancy to replace Charmaine Sheh's Big Sister position. (Nancy isn't flirty enough?) Actresses should have that quality, that's how they attract male fans. (Her 'flirt' skills aren't as good as Charmaine?) I haven't seen Charmaine's skills yet." He implied he was once 'electrocuted' by Nancy and that's how they became a couple. When asked if he has been 'electrocuted' by anyone else lately? He joked: "I wish."

Natalie Tong had always gone down the filial girl path. In her new series Gloves Come Off, she plays Raymond Wong's girlfriend, the two will go through three phases from dating to marriage and finally to having a baby. She frankly expressed the majority of her roles in the past were young See Mui or younger sister roles. This time, her role goes from a young girl to a mature woman. She said: "This role is different from the previous young girl roles I had. Before I played a young girl because I really was a young girl then, but in the last two years I have matured a lot, and have reached to another level in my acting. When I was shooting this series, I had great emotional changes."

First time shooting a bed scene, Natalie gives it all she got and will show some skin with Raymond Wong. She said the bed scene this time is her limit as to how sexy she gets. Natalie expressed: "That was the last scene, and the director told me before that I won't have any clothes on. I thought he was just joking, but when we started shooting it, he wasn't joking. It was just the private parts of the body was covered with tape. This is my first time revealing so much." She expressed if she had to do a bikini catwalk, she would definitely turn it down, but since its necessary for the show, she can accept it.

When asked if she'll be an unmarried mother? Natalie said: "Actually in today's society, do we really have to have that marriage certificate in order to have a baby? To me, that piece of paper is not that important, but actually what's more important is if two people can really live the rest of their lives together."

Natalie said her current love life is completely empty, fate will naturally come when its time. She does, however, have several pursuers, but no one of them are suitable for her. She said: "When I was younger, I went to meet people with a blank mind, but now two people will have to chat a bit before finding out if the relationship will work out. I really want to find my Mr. Right, someone that is truly right for me. However, leave it to fate. I'm not rushed at all."

herming Yiu and her boyfriend Alan Ng haven't formally registered for marriage yet, but are already holding their wedding banquet first. Yesterday the couple hosted 30 tables at the Ritz Carlton Hotel inviting friends and family. Sherming appeared in a sexy deep-V wedding dress and revealed her 'career line'. Her dress was accompanied by jewelry and accessories valued over HK$5 million and also her flashy 1.5 carat wedding ring. Sherming reveals she'll be holding another 100 table 'poon choi' banquet on the 29th and then the couple will be heading to Las Vegas to register for marriage.

Yesterday the bridesmaids was made up of the group called 'Precious Five Sisters' -- Toby Leung, Janet Chow, Margaret Chung, Angela Tong and Charmaine Sheh. Pinky Cheung and Emily Kwan, along with many others attended in low-cut dresses as well. Other guests that attended included Eric Tsang, Alex Fong (Chun Sun), Annie Man, Timmy Hung, Cutie Mui and Evergreen Mak.

That afternoon, during the 'bride pickup' ceremony, Angela Tong was very fierce, first putting packing tape on Alan's underarms and then vigorously pulled the tape off, helping him remove his underarm hair and then she put 'fur tape' around Alan's mouth. The situation was quite miserable for Alan. Later, she put a bunch of Sherming's photos on the ceiling and wanted Alan to go up on kiss each one of them.

Alan directly said he's suffering the maximum mistreatment: "So miserable, I still have to chug down a drink that contains sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, wasabi, wine and bananas." Sherming was asked if she feels heartbroken seeing this? She said: "Its OK. That's how he'll know how to cherish me, it's not that easy to marry me! (Any plans to have children?) I can at anytime. (You're pregnant?) I hope so too. If I do, I fear I won't able to keep the secret for 3 months before announcing the good news to everyone!"

Sherming was asked if she's worried her husband might get 'tortured' again at the next wedding banquet? She said: "So, we have to get Angela Tong drunk as soon as possible, then nothing will happen. (Tell Chin Kar Lok to come?) I invited him too, but he has to work. I'm truly worried without him here. If he's here too, Angela may not be as crazy, and be more of a nice girl."

Sherming exposed earlier she treated her "Precious Five Sisters" on a trip to Taiwan, when asked if they visited the 'cowherd inn' (men brothel)? She said: "No, Charmaine knows too many people." Sherming expressed she and her husband have been dating for several years and have consensus, the most important is to understand how to tolerate the weaknesses of one another and to mutually admire the strengths.

Angela did everything she could to 'torture' the groom Alan, when asked if she's worried they might take revenge on her? She said: "Does it have to be that serious as to take revenge? He already glared at me. I know Sherming is afraid of armpit hair, so I'm just helping him shave it all off, so she'll be more comfortable tonight." Toby Leung standing besides her, exposed all the games were actually designed by the bride herself.

Eric Tsang regards Sherming as his daughter, and was asked what type of wedding gift did he give her? He said: "I'm her biggest gift. Tonight, not going home if not drunk. My daughter is getting married, there's not many left. (How about Charmaine?) She isn't in a hurry to marry, she's playing hard to get." Emily Kwan claimed she's a Sing Lui and won't be able to get married, but Eric exposed: "It's her turn soon, last year she started dating. Eric then joked and praised Sherming's husband: "Holland boy is just so Man."

Niki Chow and Michael Tse's new series Sergeant Tabloid hasn't broadcast in Hong Kong yet, but its been a popular hit overseas, like on the Mainland streaming site PPS. It was understood that Michael's TVB contract ends late 2012, and to push him up for the TV King title this year, TVB is currently prepping for a sequel. TVB also hopes to sign Niki to become a contracted artist with this sequel.

Sergeant Tabloid had just completed shooting late February 2012 and already in April, the series was widely released overseas -- Malaysia's Astro On Demand, Australia's TVBJ channel and Mainland's streaming site PPS -- because the overseas buyers had great confidence on this series. TVB then decided to first schedule an overseas release.

According to a TVB staff member: "Many of the series are done this way (warehoused), but this is our first time collaborating with a Mainland website. The overseas buyers had pretty good feedback on the series, so even before the completion of filming, it was already scheduled to release. The cast didn't know the series would release overseas first. Initially, we all thought someone stole the series too, it's funny."

Mainland streaming site PPS aired the series first and started the Sergeant Tabloid surge to popularity: "Never thought the series would become a hot topic among Netizens that fast. HK Golden and other discussion forums have been very actively discussing. In fact, this series is considered one of the high budgeted productions, many explosion and gun fight scenes, so should have good reception."

On the other hand, Michael's contract ends later this year, and TVB hopes to keep Laughing Gor with them, so they are actively coming up with plans.

"It is currently the war period. There are less and less Siu Sang and FaDans around. Of course Michael can't leave! TVB saw that this series had positive response, so they're keeping up the momentum and hopes to help Michael get TV King this year. Also, TVB really wants to sign a management contract with Niki. In fact, it has long been in the works, but just never happened, so even if Sergeant Tabloid hasn't broadcast in HK, the sequel is already in the making. Ideally, the sequel must have the original cast, they even said they'll wait for Niki to see TVB's sincerity." A TVB staff discloses.

Regarding the TVB contract, Niki's manager responded: "TVB had always treated Niki very well. As to if she's a 'daughter' (contracted) or not, that is very secret stuff. It's not convenient for me to disclose."

As for her series being a popular hit even before the actual broadcast, Niki said: "I'm very happy. I just finished recording the theme song with Michael. I hope the series airs in HK as soon as possible! (TVB is already prepping for the sequel!) Of course it's good to have a sequel. It would best if there is a film version too, but we'll see how TVB arranges it!"

In the recent month, the weather in Hong Kong switches from hot and cold, lots of citizens are catching the flu due to the inconsistent weather, Chapman To included. After being ill for a month, a few days ago Chapman suddenly has a double vision condition, lost of muscle reflexes and even imbalance. Chapman went to see the doctor and was diagnosed with a rare disease called Miller Fisher. It was understood, the most severe case could be paralysis or even difficulty in breathing, leading to suffocation and eventually death.

Yesterday Chapman accepted a phone interview and spoke about his current condition. He said: "Since I live in a single family home, I will be more careful when going down the stairs. This disease is rare in HK, so the doctor drew my blood and sent it to the United States for a lab test and determine how severe my case is. The recovery period should be about 2 weeks to 6 months." Chapman is currently suffering from double vision and tetraplegia (paralysis in limbs/torso), but he optimistically expressed: "Although if this disease is serious, it can be fatal, but its rare!"

Due to Chapman's illness, he had to stop working immediately and cancel jobs, including the trip to The Locamo International Film Festival. Chapman said: "This year I have two films nominated in the film festival The Bounty and Vulgaria. I really wanted to go, but now I can't go!" His manager (Mani Fok) frankly expressed she was frightened when she heard of Chapman's condition. She was very worried and immediately modified his work schedule, turning down all jobs for the next two months, losing about 7 figures!

Chapman said losing 7 figures is not as important, but actually what gives him the most headache is he's affecting the casting process of his latest film Super Manager 超級經理人. He expressed: "Initially I was going to go the Beijing Dance Academy in May to look for new artists, but now I can't go. Such a headache, will have to come up with another plan!"

The person that is most worried about Chapman's condition is his wife, Kristal Tin, but because Kristal is currently in NingBo shooting a series, so she can't be by Chapman's side to take care of him. She is super worried! When reporters phoned Kristal, she was clearly in a confusion. For all the questions asked, she only answered them half way and her voice gave away how worried she was about her husband. She said: "I'm really worried about him! A few days ago when I didn't know what was happening yet, I really wanted to go back to HK immediately, but he told me not to. Now that I know he's sick, I'm worried if he can recover and what makes me most unhappy is that I can't be there to take care of him. But, he comforted me back, and joked that the illness won't affect his brain, so when he recovers he will still be just as handsome and smart. He took a picture of a large pile of food he bought home to eat, and said he knows how to take care of himself. Aiya, but my feelings are even more complicated when he does that."

Chapman's good friends from the industry such as Fiona Sit and Elanne Kong were extremely worried about his condition. They called him to ask about his condition, making Chapman very touched.

However, he hasn't had time to meet them. He personally hopes his girlfriend will be someone outside of the industry, so she can teach him a lot of things. Also, if he is in a relationship in the future, he won't deliberately make it public.

Raise your hands up for freedom! Yet another artist is leaving TVB : this time around, it’s veteran actor Ha Yu (夏雨) – with his contract ending on April 30th, Ha Yu has decided not to renew, thereby becoming a free artist. After he regains his freedom, will he be joining CTI or NowTV? Or perhaps head up North (Mainland China) to dig for gold? He’ll decide when the time comes.

Ha Yu started with TVB in the Chinese Folklore 《民間傳奇》era (1974 to 1977), left the company briefly to immigrate to Canada, then returned in 2000, where he has remained for the past 12 years. During this time, he soared to popularity with Heart of Greed 《溏心風暴》 and experienced record-breaking ratings the following year with Moonlight Resonance《家好月圓》 , for which he also took home the TV King award. His nickname in the past was ‘bulging veins’ (青筋現) [TN: a phrase meaning ‘having a fiery temper’ or ‘getting upset easily’], but now, this ‘old horse’ is no longer constantly ‘fired up.’: “TVB is quite good to me and we’ve had a pleasant collaboration all these years, however the pay outside is at least two times that of what I’d get here and in some cases even higher – I’m pretty much leaving because of money.”

At 66 years old, Ha Yu reiterated that he is NOT retiring just yet – he’s merely changing environments in the hopes of earning more money so that his wife and children in Canada can have a more financially stable life: “I don’t know how many more years I’ll be able to work – since TVB is my ‘maternal home’, hopefully they give me the chance to go out and earn more money while I still can.”

TVB’s salary typically on the low side

At the end of March, our reporter had invited Ha Yu for an interview – since his series Daddy Good Deeds 《當旺爸爸》 was airing, it would have been good timing for promotion, however Ha Yu replied at that time: “Contact me in mid-April instead, as that would be a better time to talk.”

As a result, we sat down for this interview after Daddy Good Deeds had already finished airing – since the ratings for the series were quite high, there was no more need for promotion, so the topic of ‘leaving the nest’ came up instead: “I’ve had a ‘per series’ contract with TVB all this time and actually still have one series left, but with the contract expiring at the end of April and less than 10 days left, it’s too late to start another series.”

According to Ha Yu’s contract, even if the company is not able to start filming on the remaining series before it expires, they are still required to pay his salary. Since the company was at a disadvantage in this instance, Ha Yu wanted to handle the situation carefully, so he delayed the interview with us [Mingpao] until the middle of April (closer to his contract end date) – hopefully TVB won’t be unhappy.

“I thought about it (contract renewal) for a long time – in fact, the company and I had several discussions about it and there were also talks about a raise, but the offer was not as desirable as outside. Therefore, I decided to return to being a free artist. Currently, I have not signed to any other company and there is nothing unpleasant about my collaboration with TVB – after collaborating with them for more than 30 years, I am leaving primarily because of money. For many years, TVB was the only major TV station in town and therefore ruled the industry – their pay has always been on the low side, but in the past, if you don’t work for TVB, who else could you work for? There was no choice. This year though, with the addition of 3 more TV stations, there are more opportunities – in fact, the offers from all the other TV stations are way better than TVB, as all of them offer pay that is more than 100% greater, in some cases even more!”

It is rumored that Ha Yu might join NowTV to once again collaborate with Moonlight Resonance and Daddy Good Deeds producers Lau Ka Ho (劉家豪) and Mui Siu Ching (梅小青): “After Ka Ho and Siu Ching left, they did talk to me, but they’ve only been with their new job for a little over a week. Their overall direction is to collaborate with Mainland and tomorrow they will be going to visit Hunan Television and Zhejiang Television, however they won’t be able to come up with a plan until they return – a lot of details are not yet known. Therefore, the rumor that they pulled me to join them when they left is false. I am returning to ‘freelance’ status first – if in the future there is an appropriate opportunity to collaborate with NowTV, I’m sure they will seek me out.”

No desire to win TV King twice

CTI’s Ricky Wong has been anxious to recruit new artists and has even been setting his sights on artists who are currently still contracted with TVB – with Ha Yu’s confirmed decision to leave TVB, of course he will become a recruitment target: “Mr Wong already sought me out last year, but I did not sign with him. We had dinner together and I told him that since I’m still contracted with TVB, I definitely would not sign with him. He did follow up later on as well, but I insisted on waiting until end of April to discuss further – he also made me an offer, but I have not decided yet.”

With his current situation, Ha Yu admits that he welcomes all offers to collaborate, but will be basing his decision on whichever company can pay the most: “I’m not young anymore and I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to do this – plus it’s hard to say whether I’ll continue to lead series [at TVB] and I don’t want to wait until I’m no longer needed to leave.”

In 2005, Ha Yu won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in the series My Family《甜孫爺爺》—being the fiery-tempered person he was at the time, he felt that he should have been male lead, so he was not too happy with a ‘supporting actor’ award. In 2007, for Heart of Greed, his name was listed after that of Moses Chan (陳豪) and Raymond Lam (林峯) on the promotional poster, which resulted in him complaining about the company [TVB] not respecting experienced veteran artists; in the end, it was the veteran artists – ‘Dai Kai’ (Louise Lee), ‘Sai Kai’ (Susanna Kwan), and ‘Bau Bau’ (Ha Yu) – who shot to popularity because of the series. Finally, things had changed and ‘parent’ level artists were elevated to a higher status.

“I feel that myself as well as Louise [Lee], Michelle [Yim], etc. all contributed greatly to the success [of the series].” That year, Ha Yu desperately wanted to win the TV King award but in the end, lost to ‘Dak Dak Dei’ Moses Chan. In 2008, with his role as ‘Joe Bau’ in Moonlight Resonance, Ha Yu finally won the TV King award and with that, his fiery temper subsided.

“What is there to fight over now? I received what I should have received already [TV King award], so I have no desire to receive it again – it’s the truth! With so many artists at TVB and quite a few amongst them in lead roles, it could take years rotating through everyone. I’m already happy that my many years of hard work was finally being recognized. To get the award, it requires so many things to be ‘aligned’ – good script, good cast and crew, good production, good promotion, good ratings, etc. – it’s harder than reaching the sky! And for this to happen again in order to win it twice is even harder! Plus, even though I’ve been at TVB for 30-40 years – longer than most of their ‘biological’ sons, the fact of the matter is that I’m not ‘biological’ – so it’s best to go out and earn some money first! Seeing how healthy and active Chow Chung (周驄) and Wu Fung (胡楓) are still, I should be able to work for another 10 years at least – though when it comes to our health, it’s hard to say. Since I still have the energy and ability right now to push ahead, I want to seize the opportunity.”

Ha Yu expressed that TVB should be understanding of his mentality at this point in his career: “They even told me that it’s impossible for them to give me the same amount of money as outside and even if I go to the Mainland, I will only earn a certain amount.”

Lost money with real estate in Canada

The year that Ha Yu won TV King, Ms. Lok [head of production and resources Virginia Lok] had expressed interest in signing him and Michelle Yim to full management contracts. They discussed it a few times, however in the end it was left up in the air – as a result, neither of them signed.

Later on, an acquaintance from the Mainland wanted to offer Ha Yu a job opportunity – he asked the acquaintance to contact TVB to arrange it, however the response that the person ended up getting was ‘he [Ha Yu] has no room in his schedule.’ Actually, the artists department never even contacted Ha Yu to ask him whether he was available or not – based on this action, Ha Yu knew full well in his heart what was going on; to his understanding, the same situation occurred at least 2 to 3 times more: “I cannot blame the company – as a business organization, it makes sense that they would take care of their own artists first; it’s not surprising at all.”

Ha Yu expressed that he has a few opportunities coming up: from May to July, he might host a variety program for a rival TV station or he might film a series in Mainland China (depending on whether the production team wants to utilize HK or Mainland artists) – he has not committed to either opportunity out of consideration for TVB’s feelings, as he didn’t want them to think that he had signed with another company while still contracted with them.

In August, he will be filming a series in Singapore for 2 months: “Last year, I filmed a small production in Singapore and it became the highest rated series of the year, so they invited me back to film the sequel – the pay is twice that of TVB’s.”

Ha Yu is not shy about admitting that he is taking money into consideration – it was rumored earlier that he had lost 60% of his assets during the Asian Financial Crisis: “It actually wasn’t that bad – I lost a little in investments and in real estate, but it wasn’t as reported. I’m not one to take huge risks, so I will never be rich but I also will never have big losses either.”

There were recent reports that he had invested in real estate that yielded huge profits, however Ha Yu explained that in actuality, he was financing the property through a mortgage and actually only broke even: “In 2000, when our whole family decided to return to HK, we sold our house in Canada for a price below the market value – now the property is worth a lot more than that!”

Not long after the family returned to HK, Ha Yu’s wife felt that it was better for the children to get an education in Canada instead, so she returned to Canada with their 3 children while Ha Yu stayed behind to work in HK. Though he has made some money over the years via investments and real estate, Ha Yu expressed that with the constant traveling between HK and Canada, the financial burden is actually quite huge.

Over 1 million HKD in living expenses per year

As the primary breadwinner in his family, Ha Yu admits that the financial pressure definitely exists. He has 2 sons and 1 daughter – his eldest son is 22 years old and studying arts in his 3rd year of college, his second son is 20 years old and also a college student, his youngest daughter is 14 years old: “We created educational funds for each them to use for their schooling once they reached 20 years old.”

His eldest son likes singing and has aspirations to join the entertainment industry – in fact, he won first place at a singing contest in Canada not too long ago: “I did explain to him that nowadays, it’s very hard to make a living as a singer, as 9 out of 10 albums lose money -- artists such as Kevin Cheng and Bowie Lam started out as singers, but it wasn’t until they entered TVB and became popular that they returned to singing. I explained to him the difficulties of this industry and how unstable it can be, as you never know when you’ll encounter the right opportunity – it could take 3 years, 5 years, or even 10 years. I wanted to make sure he’s prepared.”

Many younger generation born after the 80s and 90s are used to ‘enjoying life’ and so are not always aware of the difficulties in making a living: “The burden on my shoulders is quite large, as the living expenses are high – others may not be aware, but having to take care of family in Canada, HK, as well as my children’s educations, the expenses are as high as 1 million HKD each year. Therefore, I need to work hard to make more money.”

Ha Yu admits that leaving TVB was not an easy decision to make – after all, TVB is the place where he grew up and also made a name for himself. Even though he is already 66 years old, he is grateful that his health is still good, he’s still alert, and his memory is good: “Of course, there are the ‘small illnesses’ that come with old age, such as high blood pressure and occasional arthritis, so at this moment in my career, I wouldn’t be able to film kung fu series.”

Hopes to film a series in the Mainland

Since returning to TVB in 2000, Ha Yu has gained much fame and popularity, however he states: “Actually, I don’t make much money just relying on TVB’s salary. After I won TV King, there were more opportunities to travel and perform on stage, which is what brought in more money.”

Luckily, in recent years, the entertainment industry has become more ‘old-age’ driven, resulting in experienced veteran artists having higher market value. Watching the HK Film Awards and seeing veteran artists such as Deanie Ip, Lo Hoi Pang, So Hung Suen winning awards, it’s quite encouraging: “Listening to Deanie’s acceptance speech, she said that she is already 60 years old and never imagined she would get the chance to go up on that stage – it was very moving to hear.”

Though Mainland China is considered by many as a ‘gold mine’ for artists, Ha Yu states that due to his age, he’s not necessarily the first choice of most Mainland producers: “There are limitations that they can only utilize 5 HK artists in a production, so of course they are going to choose siu sangs and fa dans first. There are fewer opportunities for artists of my age – plus I’m quite picky when it comes to choosing roles – in the past, there have been offers to do cameos in a few episodes, but I declined. At TVB, I was still doing lead roles, plus it’s not like we are in dire need of money, so there’s no need to lower my standards.”

After becoming a free artist again, Ha Yu hopes to have the opportunity to film a Mainland series: “One reason is because I came from Mainland and second is because I can use my own voice to speak Mandarin – I’ve hosted TV shows before in Taiwan and when I first started out in HK working for RTV [Rediffusion Television], I performed various skits in Mandarin. There’s no language barrier for me.”

When he says he ‘came from Mainland’, Ha Yu is referring to the time back in 1962 when, at the age of 17, he stole across the border from Guangzhou (China) to HK, making the difficult trek through Shenzhen and climbing mountains as well as deserted areas. He started off doing hard labor at a construction site, then later joined the Shaw brothers acting classes, entered RTV, then jumped ship to TVB – at the blink of an eye, it has already been 50 years.

After leaving TVB, if he gets the opportunity to film a Mainland series, Ha Yu wouldn’t consider it as merely ‘digging gold’ in the Mainland – for him, it’s akin to returning to his village home.

‘Rain House’ (雨房)

Ha Yu uses an iPhone 4S and his wallpaper is a picture of himself and his daughter – whenever he can, he tries to keep up with the latest technology, including learning how to use apps and taking pictures with special effects to upload on Weibo. He says that Niki Chow and Michelle Yim helped him open his Weibo account and currently he has over 10,000 followers – he learned how to use the computer to accept scripts over 10 years ago, as he didn’t want to fall too far behind with technology trends.

He also has a creative mind – hanging on the door of his house in Sai Kung, a wooden engraved sign reads ‘Yu Fang’ [TN: literally translated as ‘Rain House’]: “It’s just for fun actually. I had come up with 2 names – ‘Yu Fang’ (雨房) and ‘Ha Lau’ (夏樓) – but ended up using only ‘Yu Fang’. The sign was a gift from my fans in the Mainland.”

Paul Che, a former cameo star of TVB, has sought help from the public and his ex-colleagues.

His mother died of illness on Wednesday, but the penniless Che was unable to afford the burial expenses, estimated at HK$70,000 (RM27,672).

Che sought help from TVB deputy director of external affairs Tsang Sing-ming to spread the news of his plight.

"I'm earning some HK$4,100 (RM1,621) a month now, and can't even support myself," Che told the media.

"Entertainment is a very cold industry…"

Che was a car park security guard before being recruited by TVB because of his height at nearly 2m and his strange looks.

Among the series he acted in were The Duke of Mount Deer, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre and Triumph in the Sky.

He also appeared in Stephen Chow's Justice, My Foot and Hollywood's Johnny English Reborn.

Che left the industry when his contract was not renewed by TVB a few years ago.

Hawick Lau, his girlfriend Yang Mi and Chrissie Chau were in Hainan Island working on their new film Hold My Love (Hold住愛). Earlier it was rumored Yang Mi's love shifted towards Nicholas Tse, but the couple proved the rumor false through actions. When the couple were interviewed, Yang Mi was like a little bird and often had her boyfriend do all the speaking. During the time, she often stared deeply at him with feelings. So envious of them!

Yesterday it was the first day of work for Hawick, and he already has to shoot a break up scene with Yang Mi. It looks like the storyline holds the same view as the latest rumors. Hawick has the trust for his girlfriend and expressed: "We all know she (Yang Mi) is a popular actress, she can easily get these gossips!" When Yang Mi heard her boyfriend's praises, she couldn't help but squeal a "hey" sound and deeply watched Hawick as he continues: "I never asked her about it. If I had to ask, then that means I don't trust her. (Undercurrent?) There really isn't anything! We rarely have arguments! (Don't get to see each other a lot?) Sometimes even if we have a 1 or 2 day break, we would take advantage of the time to see each other. (She's a marriage partner?) We have so many job notices daily, no time! (Girlfriend has many pursuers?) What's to worry about, I have a lot of pursuers too!" Yang Mi laughed: "We are currently doing very well."

In the film, Hawick has a bed scene, but he reveals its not with his girlfriend, but rather sexy goddess Chrissie Chau. Yang Mi laughed and said she won't monitor the set. Hawick immediately said: "You should come watch!" The two were flirting in public, Hawick then reassured his girlfriend: "I have the body of King Kong, nothing can hurt me."

Collaborating with a sweet couple, Chrissie frankly expressed she feels awkward: "They're a pair, it feels like I'm the third party. In my heart, I feel sorry. (Have a bed scene with Hawick?) Yeah, somewhat awkward. (Tell Yang Mi to come visit the set?) Not necessary, we are professional artists."

After Shirley Yeung dumped her boyfriend Andy Ng, she gave birth to her daughter Krystal alone and her current priority is to make the milk money. TVB executive Virgina Lok, as a mother herself, of course understands Shirley's situation and helps her to make a comeback. Shirley's first job is to host a mother's day show Mother, I Really Love You. At the time, Shirley will appear on-screen as a mother and share her feelings of being a mother. This is Shirley's first show after giving birth, she will be co-hosting the show with Nancy Sit and Jason Chan. The show officially starts recording next week and is schedule to broadcast on May 5th.

Asked if she's feeling rusty back at work after being on hiatus for 9 months? Shirley said over the phone: "Try my best! I will do my full preparations. There shouldn't be a problem with Nancy and Jason as my partners. I feel the show suits me well because now that I'm a mother, it is very meaningful to host a mother's day show. I'm very happy TVB asked me to do this."

As to if she'll have to start keeping fit for her first on-screen appearance after giving birth? Shirley said: "Yes! Because I gained a lot of weight from the pregnancy, but as of now I cannot lose weight because my mom said I have to replenish for 100 days and should take 1 month. Only after I can start losing weight. (Do you want to do slimming commercials?) Of course that be good, I can earn money and lose weight. For some parts of the body, it's necessary to use an instrument to help out because during pregnancy, not giving up on some foods can accumulate a lot of fat. I hope to slim down as soon as possible and concentrate entirely on making more money."

TVB executive Virgina Lok expressed: "Shirley reported back and will be starting work again. For now, she does not have any series and also it's hard for her to shoot any series while breastfeeding. As for the Mother's Day program Mother, I Really Love You, it is a show that fits her and very positive. She's a first time mother and will have lots of feelings. I told her to bring Pig's Trotters in Ginger back to TVB and share with everyone."

However, she loves a challenge: "Whether if it's Mainland or HK, I am still an actress. You can say there is no difference or you can say there is a great difference." She explains: "In HK, the crew are usually the same few people, and when I get to the set, I already know how the situation will be like. However in Mainland, we are always working with different crews, not just the different actors and directors, the culture and system of values of all the Mainland staff differs from HK. When trying to adapt to the new environment, I am able to take an another step to further build up myself. I do all my homework and can create new sparks with the co-stars."

When she says 'do all her homework', she means for the role she will have to get herself into a new life. Flora said: "There could be 20 different types of Professionals because the role has her own background and past. Her past will affect her specific reactions, so I will take this background and create a new personality." Flora expressed acting to her is always new and fresh because each role is very interesting.

This TV Queen, understands the television awards and also does not think too much about it. She said: "Even if artists' put in great efforts and contributions, they may not get any awards. Honestly, artists are just for business use. In that year, whichever artist was able to help the boss make a profit, then that artist will get the award. That's how the game works in award ceremonies, all are like that."

Entertainment news readers probably knows about Flora's husband and manager Mike Chung's bankruptcy due to a failed business. The lead female generously faces the whole situation and hasn't 'left during a crisis'. Outsiders should not speculate too much.

"The media had always report the negative and less of the good. I just live my life. My husband is a confident person that knows what he wants. It requires a lot of confidence for a man to go out to the supermarket and buy groceries. Likewise, being a homemaker also requires a lot of confidence. Just as long as the important people understands and friends know, then that is enough. I will never force others to understand me or like me."

Mr. and Mrs. Chung have a deep relationship and a beloved daughter. "My daugther's name 'Leut Yin', the 'Leut' is the word for established law or discipline. It's my husband's idea, he hopes she can become an useful person. Her English name is Mira, which is a combination of my husband's English name (Mike) and my name (Flora)."

As a mother, it represents Flora has already reached the second half of life. Her first and foremost goal obviously relates to the next generation. Flora said she will raise her daughter to become an useful person and contribute to society. In series, Flora often plays intelligent women and often lingers between her career and love. In reality, she won't hesitate, her family is the top priority.

Despite placing family in first place, Flora does not disregard her health. Today seeing Flora close up, we discover her delicate and graceful facial appearance, 10 years still the same. Her mother helped her come up with a secret to skincare. Flora said: "Life balance. That does not just mean on the outside, but the inside is also very important. Maintain a balance. For whatever it is, it cannot be forced." Flora stressed: "I am very happy, happier than before because I know what I want. I possess true confidence. You can say, the choices are on my hand." Sure, you have choices, you are the boss right?

'Boss Chan' decides to treat aging like it's nothing. "I have never been worried about my age. You cannot stop time, so why not just keep moving forward. The rule to skincare is to do appropriate things in the appropriate time. For example, when you are in your 20s, still have a lot of youthfulness, basic skincare is enough. When you get older, you need some products." Flora laughed, she's not trying to act smart, it's just because as Neutrogena's spokesperson, she was asked to promote their products. She does genuinely believe that Neutrogena's line of Anti-Wrinkle products really did help her.

"Whether if its the skin or mentality, there is no need to put too much pressure on yourself. That is the direction of taking good care of yourself." Flora's core stress reduction is to have self-confidence: "When facing any situation, having self-confidence can lead you to a solution."

Indeed, someone filled with self-confidence and love for oneself, why would they fear the gossips circulating in the public?
