Amy and Lam were married in 1983 and have one son, whom is already 26 years old now. Amy disclosed she had a tough 20 some year marriage. Lam planned to start his own business twice, but failed twice and she had to help him pay off his debts and got deceived; because of Lam, Amy had a fallout with her actress younger sister Charine Chan. Amy said her decision to divorce Lam had nothing to do with money. If the divorce had to do with money, then she wouldn't have to wait until today to do it. As more problems arise, Amy realized she and Lam had different values and ideals on life. She felt its better and easier to just live her own life.
Amy said she and her ex-husband didn't get into arguments because of the divorce. She just didn't want to drag it. Amy believes in fate, separation means fate has ended and that "together until old age" is not guaranteed. After the divorce, she and her ex-husband did not keep in touch, but she contributed and put in her greatest effort into the 28 year marriage, although it ultimately still ended in separation, she does not feel regret.
