Eric also revealed that earlier, he had issued a public letter to his fans that talked about his career and how he was unsure of the direction he is going to take. He says: “I can’t bear to part with the career I have built up in Hong Kong these past 3 years, however I also really miss life in Taiwan. At the same time, I also have hopes of moving to Shanghai to make it easier with filming mainland TV series. At this moment, the future direction of my career is a bit messy – plus in Taiwan, I still owe a lot of series, so in terms of renewing my contract, I hope that Universal is able to work with me and allow me to sign the contract after I finish filming the series that I owe.”
Eric Suen participated in a Fashion Show in HK’s Central district the day before yesterday. Last year, due to the vocal cord hemorrhage issues that he experienced, he was almost not able to sing again. Luckily after surgery and a long period of rest, he has quickly recovered – in fact, his vocal cords are even stronger than before and his singing voice is even better than previously.
Eric was asked about his feelings toward the issue going on currently between the 4 big record companies and TVB, as it was mentioned that he was one of the first artists to release a new song after the dispute erupted. As an artist under the Universal record label, Eric helplessly stated: “There are already very few avenues in Hong Kong for artists to promote their new songs; now we cannot even participate in the few music-related programs that there are, so we had a meeting earlier (at Universal) and decided that we would look at alternative methods such as utilizing the Internet to promote songs.” He expressed that he still has a contract with TVB, so he has not tried having his MVs air on competitor’s stations such as ATV or i-Cable: “TVB is a very good place for promoting music, it is very sad to not be able to go on any shows. However, I will support the record company’s decision; hopefully, TVB will help artists out more by giving more royalties to the record companies so that the companies can put more money towards production of good songs. I don’t want it to get to the point where in the future, there will be no more Cantonese songs.”
