Most of us have probably forgotten Louis Yuen started out as a singer. He debuted after participating in the 3rd New Talent Singing Contest in 1984. He has been in showbiz for 30 years. The 46 year old actor had always wanted to do some "homework" to sum up his 30 years. It just he never thought he'll have the opportunity to do it in a Hong Kong Coliseum concert.

"My initial idea was to do a standup comedy or standup 'singing'. Later I formed a crew, they told me: 'Louis, you started from the New Talent singing contest, why don't you do a concert at your 30 year milestone? Singing, it is your greatest interest after all!' I thought that's a great idea too, at least I could do something different from before or something that people didn't think I would do."

Today when preparing for concerts, it seems the most ideal things to do are to lose weight and work out, but Louis said: "I think it isn't necessary for me to lose weight. Aren't people going to concerts to listen to music? You have to strip too? Hahaha. I don't think its necessary to go to the Nick Cheung's extent, each individual has a different path. Others do it, I'm not doing it. I want something new! It must be like that!"

Never Given Up On Singing

During the interview, Louis didn't emphasize how much he liked singing, but as the interviewer sitting besides him, I really can feel his fire. Its like a fire that had been burning for many years that won't die out. In the eyes of most audience, Louis is a known comedic actor.

"You can say it this way, I have never given up on singing. Singing is not a dream or an ideal because 'it' has already become part of my everyday life. When I'm driving, I listen to the radio because I want to know who are this year's newcomers in the music industry. I want to know what new songs are out there or what the current popular songs are? Actually I've always had a close interaction with music."

A Path of No Return

"Basically, from primary school to secondary school, I have never lost a singing contest. One year it was crazy, nobody participated. The other people said: 'He's (Louis) is going to win for sure! What is the point in us participating!' Even the principal at the school tried to convince me not to participate in the contests anymore. That time I thought I was amazing! I saw I didn't have any competitors at my school, so I really wanted to see if I'm really that good. Why don't I try participating in the public singing contests?"

"I lost. The defeat was a huge impact on me because I never lost before! I finished performing and got off the stage. The staff, the judges and the guests that night like Anita Mui and David Lui said to me: 'Loius, you sang very well. Wait to get the award tonight!'"

"I know I'm not handsome, but I can't help it. I tell myself: 'Today you aren't used to seeing me, but if I'm on TV everyday, perhaps your thoughts will change?' That's why I entered TVB."

At TVB Louis hosted a few shows before recommending himself to join Enjoy Yourself Tonight two years after he entered TVB. At the time, Louis just hoped to get more exposure, but he never thought that was a path of no return. It is not that he's unwilling to be funny, just he never thought "once entered the comedic door, its a deep sea".

"I started being funny after entering Enjoy Yourself Tonight. I started doing disguises and the audience really liked it. One time, fans said I was really funny. I thought to myself: 'Oh no, its getting into their heads!'. Even when I'm on more serious shows, such as a show about physical education, everyone still thought I was really funny. How can I use such a comedic image to go on stage and sing Jacky Cheung's love songs? I began to feel I was drifting further and further away from music...."

In between, Louis had left TVB to get away from that image and had planned to release an album. Unfortunately the record company had some issues with the staff and his plan went out the window. After some twist and turns, Louis finds himself back on the television set, back to filming TV comedy series. After so many years, Louis has finally understood the concept of "don't force it".

"My mentality is just to share. I'm currently on social networking sits, sharing my own works online. I don't have to actually launch music albums."

Yesterday Sharon Chan and Louis Yuen were at the beach in Sek O for the shooting of TVB new series My Prime Lady. The scene was about how Louis' grandmother pursued his grandfather back in the 60s. Louis played the young grandfather and Sharon played the young grandmother. Yesterday at the beach, Sharon appeared in a 60s bikini, showing off her beautiful 43-inch legs. Sharon knew she didn't have much to show on her upper body, she grabbed Louis, who was dressed in an one-piece bathing suit and joked: "I can't show much on the top, let me borrow your milk to take pictures!" The two were shooting a 'hero rescuing beauty' scene, where Louis had to help Sharon do CPR and won himself a belated birthday kiss from Sharon.

Sharon expressed she didn't go on a diet because of this bikini, but disclosed if she were to compare to her co-stars Dayo Wong and Kate Tsui, she and Louis are a pair of mad eaters. "Dayo and Kate are not eating! Even during our lunch breaks, they're not eating. Usually they just sit with us at the table and not eat, not sure if they got anorexia or something!"

Louis just celebrated his 46th birthday a few days ago, but because of work, he just had 3 hours to celebrate with his family, girlfriend and several friends. His girlfriend did the cooking that night and invited good friends Charmaine Sheh, Michael Miu and his wife Jamie Chik, Felix Wong, Annie Man, Toby Leung and Angela Tong. He said: "Charmaine saw my girlfriend always in the kitchen cooking, so we all met up to have a happy dinner together." Louis said he had to leave early that night because he had to rush back to filming, but his friends continued having a great time. However, someone broke his chair and spilled the wine: "There were two friends sharing a chair, so it broke. Well then, I had to ask them to pay for it. The most important is everyone cherishes time together." When asked whether his mother forced him to hurry and start a family? Louis said he and his mother came to an agreement 20 years ago, "My sister has kids already, my mother is grandmother, so I am in no rush."

The third day of Chinese New Year is also the 'argument day', a day one can easily get into an angry argument with someone. Friendly Fire's funny couple Louis Yuen and Grace Wong, surprisingly doesn't just 'argue' verbally, but also takes out their weapons and fists. Louis just allowed and on his own will, his 'barbaric girlfriend' Grace to attack him. Of course Grace doesn't actually hit him, each time her 'attacks' are filled with love. She eventually gave flowers to Louis and they ended in harmony again. In reality, Grace and Louis are good buddies. Louis would help Grace fix her hair, which got Grace to complement how attentive her 'See Hing' is.

In the past, Louis usually meets up with his good friends on the third day of CNY, but because the more familiar he is with the friend, the more bickering is involved, especially when he chose to see them on the 'argument day'. "On the first and second day of New Year, I would visit close family and relatives to send new year greetings, but on the third day I have never argued with anybody before. New Year is a happy day, how could we be arguing!" Louis said there are many forms of arguments, it could be used to express dissatisfaction, but it may not necessarily be used for actual disputes. On this CNY, I hope to spend more time with family, unlike the last few years where I was extremely busy.

Grace laughed: "I just learned what the 'argument day' meant. I thought Chinese people had a special day just for arguments and we have to set up a time to argue, then there won't be any more arguments hereafter. (How will you spend the New Year?) On the first, I participated in a parade. (What's your plans for the New Year?) I hope this year I'll get more breakthrough roles, those whom differ from the real Grace Wong. I already know about one of my new roles, she has mental issues. It's a pretty big challenge for me. I will be shooting 3 series around the same time, it feels like a time for training and the opportunity to practice my Chinese. (Hope to get an award this year?) I enjoy a breakthrough role and audience being able to see my hard work more. I don't want to gain too much, I'll be happy with just a nomination. (You don't want to start dating?) God will have his arrangements for me. I will pray to encounter a good boyfriend and for my career and love life to go smoothly."

Small Project: Do a Show

Louis expressed: "For the new year, I have a small project, that is to kick off my own show. I hope to do more homework first. I feel an artist should give some homework to themselves annually. Actually last year I already started preparing, and I hope to make it happen this year. I want to a breakthrough individual show and it should happen at the end of this year. (Any plans for marriage?) Not rushed, after all I am part of the Idol group. My girlfriend and I are happy together, thank you all for the concern!"

Louis Yuen and his girlfriend (Crystal) of 12 years often get rushed by others to get married. Yesterday when Louis was on Eileen Cha's radio interview, he was asked when is his marriage happening? He joked: "Tomorrow! Let's see if there's a time slot tomorrow." He said his mother hasn't rushed him because his elder sister is already married and has kids, so she has grandchildren to play with.

As for his girlfriend, he said he won’t be able to ‘fly out of his girlfriend’s fingers’, they also have consensus that they won't be having children. The most important is to live happily. Louis does, however, admit that when facing his seniors, like Eric Tsang, who rushes him to marry, he does feel some pressure. Thinking of how he’ll handle marriage, perhaps he’ll just have dinner with friends.

In TVB new series No Good Either Way, he pairs up with his good friend Wong Cho Lam's girlfriend Leanne Li. Louis joked, seeing how powerful Wong Cho Lam is at TVB, it’s better to just ask his good brothers to play as his girlfriend’s on-screen boyfriend is much safer.

Michael Tse, Tavia Yeung and Louis Yuen were shooting for TVB new series Justice Pursuit and Attack at a shopping mall. The scene was about Michael seeing his girlfriend Tavia sweetly walking and linking arms with Louis. The angered Michael charged up to them, but tripped and during the confusion, he pushes Louis down. This left Tavia feeling displeased by his behavior. The scene was pretty funny.

During filming, Tavia and Louis appeared very close and intimate, and even off-cameras they are often holding hands. Tavia laughed: "Louis and I are just 'good sisters' in the series, Michael was definitely jealous for nothing." When asked if Tavia has the same type of 'good sister' male friends in real life? She unexpectedly dragged Ron Ng into the water: "Ron Ng can be one! Before when I was shooting on the busy streets with him, we were walking down the streets holding hands just the same way." Reporters teased her, asking if she's afraid of his girlfriend Viann Zhang getting jealous? Tavia was instantly clever and drew a line: "I am talking about several years ago. As for Michael, who plays a prosecutor, expressed he doesn't have a playboy personality in the series. When reporters teased he has kiss scenes from left to right with both Tavia and Grace Wong? Also, what's interesting is Louis Yuen's name in the series is 'Louis Koo'. Tavia said every time she calls him, the onlookers surrounding the scene would burst into laughter. Louis could only smooth things by saying: "In fact, I do look like Louis [Koo]!"

A few days ago, Louis Yuen, Ruco Chan and Gill Singh (Q Bobo) were shooting for TVB new series CHOK Family in Kowloon City. The scene was about the three men in the sauna room, but was suddenly chased by a group of gangsters. Consequently, the three ran out of the room and into the alley with nothing but towels wrapped around their waist. While they were running, Ruco and Louis accidentally lost their towels and revealed the swim trunks underneath.

However, Ruco did not mind at all and expressed this is his second time collaborating with Louis. When asked if he worked out before the shoot? He said: "Nope, I initially wanted to do pull-ups, but didn't have time. (Is appearing topless your limit?) Nope, if I encounter a good script, I don't mind revealing my behind! However, with the TV series scale, it can't be done. (Do you want to shoot films?) I want to do everything, just have to see if its necessary for the script. However, revealing as extreme as Kai Ko is too much. I just feel its better to stop before overdoing it."

Louis is currently maintaining a diet, where he only eats 1 meal of starchy foods a day. When speaking of his sexy appearance while in his swim trunks? He laughed: "Because the director said he fears I'll expose what's underneath, so he told me to wear the smallest size. (Is that true material?) Huh? I don't understand, don't really know how to answer you. The director just told me I have to wear the smallest size, but the smallest pair I have are these, so I just wore them! (Is this your first time running on the streets naked?) I really haven't done it before. I have done it when shooting in the studio, so when I first heard about this scene, I was a little worried myself. I told the director not to make us run on the big and busy streets!"

The film FORTUNE BUDDIES (GAING CHAU FUK LUK SAU) yesterday promoted in Mongkok. Attendees included Wong Cho Nam, Yuen Siu Cheung, Johnson Lee Si Jit, Maggie Cheung Ho Yi, Macy Chan Mei Si and Jess Sum Cheuk Ying. While playing games with the audience, Cheung Ho Yi almost had an wardrobe malfunction.

Cho Nam, Cheung Jai and Si Jit said that this film had great response in Malaysia and Singapore. They had a lot of confidence in the entire Southeast Asian market. The company will make a profit. Cheung Jai even said, "Over 100 million is impossible, but it should pass 30 million!"

In the film Cho Nam, Cheung Jai and Si Jit had kiss scenes with female characters. Cho Nam kissed Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Si Jit kissed Samantha Ko Hoi Ning, and Cheung Jai was paired with Lo Mik Shuet. Si Jit joked that Cheung Jai and Lo Mik Shuet was incest. Cho Nam pointed out that if the film performed well at the box office, asking him to dress up as anything would not be particularly special. In the film FORTUNE BUDDIES (GAING CHAU FUK LUK SAU), Yuen Siu Cheung, Wong Cho Nam and Johnson Lee Si Jit in the film not only disguised themselves as women but also fought in the ring to accept U.S. wrestling elite's overseas challenge.

While they took a beating they also "benefited", as Fiona Sit Hoi Kei played Cho Nam's girlfriend, Cheung Jai fainted and received CPR from Lo Mik Shuet.

Christine Ng, Louis Yuen and Producer (Chin Kwok Wai) attended TVB's all new game show Changing Body Men and Women Chok Chok Chok (Tentative Title) blessing ceremony yesterday. This is Christine's first time hosting a game show, she greatly praised her partner Louis Yuen as her senior and plans to rely everything on him. Louis praised Christine back that she's one of the best representatives of wives in the industry.

Christine laughed: "First time hosting a game show, very nervous. In the first episode, all the guests are my good friends. (Anita Yuen, Niki Chow, Grasshopper) and they can support me a little!" They play the 'grown up versions' of the twins played by Joyce Cheng and Kate Tsui respectively. The story is about Ng Seun (Tony Leung) and Tok Siu Lung (Eric Tsang) recalling the house birds of prey in their childhood and while growing up. They remember that when they were young they encountered very beautiful twins in a bread shop. They think of how the twins look like now that they're grown.

It was hard to believe that the twins now have a completely different facial appearance and body figure than from in the past. The grown twins enthusiastically remembers Tony and Eric's characters. Although they played dumb and pretended they didn't know them, they were eventually forced to drink floor washing water. It was a miserable experience for them to escape from the twins.
