Wong Hei (王喜) worked at TVB for 16 years and suffered from cold treatment in recent years. Eventually, he decided to leave the company due to dissatisfaction. On September 29th, Wong Hei’s TVB contract officially expired and he left with mixed feelings.

Although Wong Hei was good friends with TVB executive, Stephen Chan (陳志雲), Wong Hei was not promoted at the compnay. In fact, the Artist Management department suggested that Wong Hei pay money to terminate his contract early. The turn of events made Wong Hei disheartened. Before leaving, Wong Hei returned to his locker at TVB City to obtain a few items and take pictures. He had mixed feelings and did not expect to be faced with further unsympathetic treatment by the staff, who had terminated his employee ID card access rights to the premises in advance.

Wong Hei worked at TVB for many years, delivering numerous classic performances in highly rated series, including the three installments of Burning Flame "烈火雄心". However, his workload plummeted in recent years. Rumors suggested that he did not get along with TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲). Accused of not delivering enough [vendor] show appearances, Wong Hei was advised by the Artist Management department to terminate his contract early by paying a fee. This cold treatment gave Wong Hei a great sense of helplessness and made him highly uncomfortable.

Difficult to Say Goodbye to Producer Amy Wong

Last night, Wong Hei packed his possessions from his personal locker, #181, and to say goodbye to the people he cherished. On his blog, Wong Hei posted photos and expressed the mixed feelings he felt on his last day at TVB.

With his 16-year career at TVB, Wong Hei had the most difficulty in bidding farewell to Producer Amy Wong (王心慰). Last night, Wong Hei stopped by Amy’s office to reminsce over past memories, which made him feel emotional and started crying. ”This is the mother of ‘Yau Chi Tak,’ ‘Lok Tin Yau,’ ‘Kei Tak Tin,’ and ‘Chung Yau Sing.’ Over the last 16 years, Amy Wong was the producer who trusted me the most. She allowed me to inject blood, tears, and soul into the characters which she created. For each role, I asked her: ‘Did I portray the role as you imagined it to be?’ Each time, she will look at me steadily before saying: “Sometimes you did and sometimes you did not. You can do better, but let’s drop the matter.’

“Ha ha, this evening, I deliberately entered Amy’s office after work hours to secretly take pictures for memories’ sake. My intention was that I did not want to cry in front of Amy. Unfortunately, my tears are currently falling while I am typing these words right now.”

Employee Access Canceled Prior to 12 Midnight

As TVB’s former “biological son,” Wong Hei recollected upon some old photos [that were posted in TVB's offices], “This photo was taken in 2006, after I signed a management contract to become a ‘biological son.’ The Artist Management department designed my image. At the time, I had quit smoking and thus my face was plump ha ha, but unfortunately it did not produce a ‘cute’ effect which made everyone love me. Ha ha, all along, I felt that this wall, which is filled with artist head shots, reaked of an ash smell. Do you share the same feeling?”

Before leaving TVB City, Wong Hei wanted to take a photo with the company’s mascot, TV Buddy, but he discovered his employee ID card was denied access. “When I wanted to go past the main gates and outside the door to take pictures with TV Buddy, my employee ID card was denied access. I only had access to the parking area, while entry to other locations were canceled. One of the security guards said surprisingly, ‘Although it was not yet 12 midnight, the access has been canceled already? Isn’t that too cold?’ I asked, “Can you open the gate and let me take a picture before leaving? I will leave from the parking lot afterwards.’ He said, ’Sure.’”

Future Path to Be Announced

Wong Hei’s final words to TVB were: “Thanks to TVB for giving me challenging and life-risking opportunities over the last 16 years. Hopefully, from now onwards, everyone’s futures will only grow better and better. Bye bye lah!”

Although TVB was not the place for him, Wong Hei will find the proper place for him. Recently, Wong Hei was contacted by Now TV executive, Ho Lai Chuen (何麗全) to discuss program hosting opportunities. Asked about his future direction, Wong Hei indicated that he was currently negotiating with other producers and will reveal his career plans later.

Clarified That He Did Not Tamper With Scripts

Appearing on an interview program with mainland’s Phoenix TV, Wong Hei admitted that he was a little “naive” and was willing to bear the work environment at TVB for 16 years because he wanted to repay the company. “Prior to entering TVB, I was unemployed for 9 months. Precisely at this time, TVB called me.” For many years, Wong Hei was accused of tampering with television scripts and plagued by negative rumors. Through different platforms, he hoped that audiences realized he was not this type of person.

Recently, Wong Hei also discovered that many people treated him very well, such as offering him work and worrying about his future without a job. Upon saying this, Wong Hei’s voice choked and he started wiping away tears.

Wong He has been in the industry for 19 years, and does not have many friends. The one person who was able to get him to sacrifice was Stephen Chan. For Stephen, Wong He accompanied him through 540 days of the difficult times in court for his corruption case.

March 11, 2010 (Stephen Chan's arrest for corruption by the ICAC), Mr. Chan and I both had some changes. Our relationship started changing, started getting better and it was also during this time that we both had the same experience and reflections. That moment when I opened the umbrella for Mr. Chan, it is not something to be praised, I was prepared for people to talk about me. However, as Mr. Chan's friend, it is normal to open an umbrella for him when it rains. I know he sees this event as a treasured moment. I will try my best to protect him! That day he got his hair done early in the morning, but it suddenly started raining, and I didn't want the rain to ruin his hair, Mr. Chan likes to be pretty... compared to me? Of course he likes to be pretty more than I do! In fact, Mr. Chan have many friends behind-the-scenes that are concerned about him. Some feel it's sensitive and isn't convenient to take action. So, just let someone who feels it's convenient to do so, and that is something I will reflect on in the future!

During the court trials, Mr. Chan had a large group of friends and professionals helping him piece everything together. At this time, Mr. Chan had the greatest willpower and EQ to face 3 weeks of being on trial. In the courtroom, Mr. Chan was very strong, but outside of the courtroom, he was very weak. He expressed his feelings of "being bullied", and that moment I felt awful. These words came out of someone who is strong, I felt even more awful... (red eyes) At the time did I cry? I will not tell you. I am a policeman, I have a mission to fight for his justice. The group of Mr. Chan supporters also worked really hard to help him win his justice back. It is because of this experience with Mr. Chan, our relationship got better, despite it being difficult to bear. I made him part of my family, and got approval from my mother too.

I was raised in a strict environment, I cannot just causally say someone is part of my family. In the early years, I acknowledged this one man as my father, and my mother heavily beat me. Today, I already acknowledged Mr. Chan as part of my family, and that is enough for me to bring Mr. Chan back to see my mom. On the day of 'meeting the parents', it was also the day I 'released' Mr. Chan, that time the arrest incident already happened. I was in a hurry to 'release' him. That day my mother was with me, Mr. Chan was already there, I introduced Mr. Chan to my mom and once she saw him, she treated him with great respect. She saw him as her 'half son', but at the same time she thought of him as an executive. The scene was quite interesting, very very funny.

Friendship is very strange, when you and another person become friends, then you will have to accept his/her history too. When it comes to work, Mr. Chan never helped me, nor do I allow such thing to happen. People describe me as part of the 'Stephen Party', I cannot control that and this is just a taste difference. There is no high or low in taste, just good or bad. I cannot change the taste of others, but it is just Mr. Chan will be his manager and I will continue to be the little artist I am. After all, I still haven't been treated well, is it because I'm in the 'Stephen Party'? Is that a blessing or a disaster? I am supporting myself! So what if it's a disaster?

Due to a contractual dispute, Wong Hei’s relationship with TVB turned sour recently – it was reported that because Wong Hei is close with TVB’s General Manager Stephen Chan, he was treated coldly by the company. His contract is set to expire next month (September), however he has not met the number of shows required to fulfill his contractual obligation – recently, someone from TVB’s Artists Department even suggested to Wong Hei that he pay a fine and terminate his contract early, which greatly disappointed him. Even though TVB has denied everything, Wong Hei continues to insist that TVB’s response is ‘inconsistent with the truth’. The situation has gotten to the point where Wong Hei has started to lose sleep over it.

Yesterday morning, Wong Hei posted on his Weibo account, insinuating that the situation was purposefully planned to chase him out: “Sleepless! 16 years -- all the sweat, tears, and blood that I contributed, suddenly swirling around in my head; at the same time, I continue to hear the ‘suggestion’ that a fellow colleague relayed to me, so ear-piercing and heartbreaking. Aiye! Despite how reluctant I am to part with them, I am ultimately no match for the ‘effort’ they spent in 17 months. Aiye!”

One of Wong Hei’s fans could not stand the injustice and so scolded Virginia Lok on Weibo. Wong Hei urged the fan not to make the situation any bigger than it already is: “Don’t make it a big issue! I don’t want Mrs. Chan [TN: Virginia Lok’s husband’s surname is Chan] to make another move against me and make things even more difficult for me. Having to pay a fine to terminate my contract is already bad enough!” Wong Hei also re-emphasized that Virginia Lok is already married and has a child, so it is disrespectful to continue to call her ‘Ms Lok’ – everyone should call her ‘Mrs. Chan’ instead. On his Weibo, Wong Hei also mentioned that it is quite a shame that Mrs Chan’s [Virginia Lok] testimony in court [Stephen Chan’s corruption case] did not get republished in its original text – otherwise, everyone would be able to see her ‘true’ character.

Lately, there have been rumors that due to actor Wong Hei’s close relationship with TVB’s GM Stephen Chan, his workload at the company was greatly reduced to the point that he does not have enough ‘shows’ to fulfill his contractual obligation – as a result, even though Wong Hei’s per series contract is scheduled to expire at the end of September, TVB has suggested that he pay a monetary fine to terminate his contract early (prior to September). With these rumored actions, it appears that TVB is trying to chase Wong Hei out of their company. Yesterday, TVB’s External Affairs Director Tsang Sing Ming responded on behalf of TVB and denied the reports, claiming instead that Wong Hei had to film in the Mainland and therefore did not have time to discuss renewing his contract. However, on the other side, Wong Hei claims that TVB’s response is “not consistent with the truth”. It appears that both sides are standing by their responses.

Mr. Tsang expressed that when he heard the report, he requested clarification from Artists Department head Virginia Lok as well as both the production and artists departments. The response that he received was that 1) TVB did not try to chase Wong Hei out of the company – his contract is set to expire in September, however due to Wong Hei having to go to the Mainland to film series, he has not had time to discuss renewing his contract with them, 2) TVB did not request for Wong Hei to pay a monetary fine in order to terminate his contract early, as he has already completed all of the work that TVB has given him, 3) Wong Hei is currently hosting the 10-episode variety show “Hong Kong Back Then” and the company will accommodate his schedule to complete filming of the show, plus he is also doing voiceover work for the show “Human Planet” for TVB’s Pearl Channel, so cannot say that he doesn’t have enough work.

Mr. Tsang indicated that Wong Hei has been with TVB for 16 years and throughout that time, the series he has participated in as well as the variety shows he has hosted have all been well-received by audiences – both sides have a good working relationship and the company definitely recognizes his talent. He indicated that the company is not opposed to collaborating with Wong Hei again – just like with other artists such as Adam Cheng, Damian Lau, Eddie Cheung, etc., who have returned to TVB to film series, TVB’s doors will always be open for Wong Hei. (But Wong Hei was the one who stated that someone told him to pay a monetary fine and terminate his contract early?) In response, Mr Tsang said that it may have been a communication error and the Artists Department will seek clarification from Wong Hei directly. (Is the situation due to Wong Hei’s close relationship with Stephen Chan?) Mr Tsang expressed that Stephen Chan is the company’s General Manager and is in charge of production, so having a close relationship with artists is normal. He emphasized that there are absolutely no parties or cliques in the company and that TVB utilizes artists based on their capabilities.

Asked about Mr Tsang’s response to the situation on behalf of TVB, Wong Hei would only respond: “Mr Tsang was only reading the information that was given to him by the Artists Department that is not consistent with the truth – it is not his fault.”

Yesterday Wong He attended the new TVB Jade documentary program Human Planet press conference. Wong He will be narrating the Cantonese version of the documentary. In the last half year, Wong He has primarily been hosting for these types of programs, he admits that narrating a few episodes counts as one show and shooting 1 episode of a series is treated as 2 shows. Is he worried that by the end of the year he won't have enough shows? Wong He said: "In the end if there is enough, it will be arranged. (Fear the difficulty in shooting series?) I am known to be fearless of difficulty!" In the past, when he's shooting series he often has trouble getting along with his co-stars. When asked if there were too many complaints on him that he's shooting less series now? Wong He asked reports back, who he doesn't get along with? Someone at the scene said Kevin Cheng. He was slightly displeased: "Why do you have to write bad about me? How do I respond? Next time we'll talk!" Then he turned around and left. After a few minutes, Wong He comes back and expressed that he has thought of the answer: "Perhaps before there was some misunderstandings. Why not shoot an 80 episode long series, we will be together for about a year, and eliminate the misunderstanding! I also hope to shoot a long series with Kevin, and exchange skills on the TV screen, set sparks and entertain everyone."

Linda Chung is currently shooting for new series Men and Women Chooses Residence and has not had the time to partner up with Wong He to earn extra income during the golden period. For this reason, Wong He 'fired' her and although Linda has to work, she is still happy: "Doesn't matter, but I'll be even happier if don't have to work. Actually several years in the industry, I had to work every year. I haven't celebrated with my parents and sister for over 6 years. (Next Christmas, bring a boyfriend to visit your family in Canada?) Of course! But, first I need to find one."

Speaking of the new year resolutions, Linda hopes to release her new album as soon as possible and to get agreement by viewers on all her roles. Of course she also hopes for good health, last year she had average health and this taught her to treasure the people around her, treasure life.

On the other side, Wong He although 'angry fired' Linda, he's still a good friend. When he saw her often having sleepless nights, he got her an aroma diffuser (for aromatherapy) as a 'dismissal fee' and he hopes she can get back to sleep. As for Christmas, Wong He has another 'new interest': "I will be having many stage performances in Guangzhou Province bars and will be spending it together with the 'yan jai'("little people" - meaning Chinese yuan)! It is (yan jai), not someone's wife (yan chai)!"

In the past year, regardless if it's Wong He or his friends, there has been great ups and downs. He has also learned a lot from his friends' serious consequences. As for himself, his career only got better in the last half year, he hopes to find a powerful extraordinary manager to help him break new grounds on his work outside of TV.

Wong He and Linda Chung's Twilight Investigations ratings have not been too bad. Yesterday they attended the promotional event at the busy Tsim Sha Shui along with the rest of the cast Raymond Wong, Johnson Lee and Queenie Chu. The cast were grabbing passerbyers to make a "gwing look", which attracted many people to surround the area. The promotion was quite effective.

Later, Wong He expressed he wanted to shoot a sequel, but the Producer did not comment, asked if he and Linda's on-screen couple team will be going all out on accepting jobs during the golden Christmas period? Wong He joked: "I am announcing it's over between me and her, I fired her. Nobody has offered us jobs, written news about us, or followed us in the last two weeks. I will just have to fly solo. (Audience have deep impression on her and Raymond Lam!) Proves that TVB is good at using their resources when it comes to promoting someone, spilling mercury, get into every hole possible, many angles and levels. They can easily boost the person they want to boost!" In other words, Wong He is describing Mona Fong's "no fear of gossips" note to Raymond, it's a favorable criticism, trendy and creates a new 12 honest words.

Also, in the series Linda plays a happy girl and gets criticized by Netizens saying that her acting is exaggerated. Linda explained that it is necessary for the character. In the series, she loves Raymond Lam, Linda smiled: "It is necessary for the script, Raymond is so popular, it's reasonable that he's an idol."

Wong He, Linda Chung and the cast to TVB new series Twilight Investigations attended the promotional event in Tsuen Wan. Replacing the broadcast of No Regrets, the two expressed that they have confidence on the TV ratings. Wong He said: "There is some pressure, No Regrets increased the audience appetite, but now audience can change appetite and watch a comedy, don't have to be so serious. Already been in the industry for 16 years, Wong He has a wish, he hopes to be an on-screen couple with Linda, earning money together. Reporters teased that he cannot compete with Raymond Lam or Ron Ng, Wong He said: "Ron Ng can't finish it all, for the rest of the year I'll take care of it first, we are earning extra income so Linda can buy a house." Linda happily responded: "I want to too! Always rumoring with Raymond and Ron, really boring, change partners for a fresh feeling."

Also, Linda attended the Cartier party last night after returning from the States for rumored boyfriend Raymond Lam's concert. When speaking of the concert, she said that it was the first time she sang fast songs and personally felt she was qualified. Linda has confidence in having a few fast songs in her upcoming album. This time she sang more songs at the concert than usual, she sang 11 songs, usually she only does 5. Linda denies that she gave rumored boyfriend Raymond special treatment, calling room service for him at the hotel every day, she did not eat with Raymond. Denies that Ron is pursuing her
It was recently rumored that Ron Ng is pursuing her, Linda did not hesitate to deny the rumors: "Every time I film a series, I'm always rumored with the male lead, feeling numb to all of it. (Can you feel that he's pursuing you?) When I am filming series, I am completely focused on my work. (Your so focused, he can still pursue you?) Since TVB's GM Stephen Chan's involvement in the corruption case, his henchmen were all got "swept away" by TVB internally. Wong He's Twilight Investigation was initally scheduled to broadcast in the summer, but was temporarily taken out, making Wong He lose all his chances for this year's Best Actor award. The TVB Lighting Ceremony and the day the awards nomination came out, Wong He was not invited to attended to neither of the two events.

That day when Stephen "lit the light" to have Louis Cheung host JSG, Book of Words and The Voice was completely shut out after Stephen's suspension and was completely off camera during the time of Stephen's suspension. Now that Stephen is back, his favorites are all coming back out. Last night, Louis was arranged to go on JSG, while Wong He's Twilight Investigations is back on the broadcast schedule.

It was rumored that with Stephen back in TVB, the Twilight Investigations series can only be broadcast. Wong He frankly said: "It is two different things. Last month, I already did the shooting for the promotional clip and that time we didn't know Stephen was coming back yet. (It was initially going to broadcast in the summer?) I know too, at the time there was a lot of news on the internet. (Didn't invite you to attend the TVB lighting ceremony and anniversary?) When Louis was recording for JSG, he thanked Stephen Chan again, but joked that he doesn't belong in the "Stephen Party", but personally belongs to "Miss Tse" (Kay Tse). Asked if he's borrowing Stephen's momentum to get some popularity on TVB? Louis said: "Before I was busy producing an album, so didn't appear much in public. This time going on JSG, it's mainly for my new song's promotions, it has nothing to do with Mr. Chan. (Do you feel that it's not the right time for Stephen to come back when he's still dealing with the court case?) It's the best arrangement now."

Yesterday Stephen's 'ultimate favorite' Leo Ku explained his reason of absence at the dinner with Stephen: "I had to go see the doctor after being busy for the opening of a new store. The doctor came from Beijing and the appointment cannot be changed. After seeing the doctor, they already finished eating. I will make it up to Mr. Chan. (There was only two people from the industry at the dinner?) Really? I really don't know, thank you! I support him."

The day before, Wong He went to Evangel Hospital for a surgery. All at once, he got more than 10 abdominal tumors surgically removed. In fact, it is because of genetics Wong He has more than 10 tumors on the ventrodorsal, but since it wasn't doing anything, he had no plan to remove them. When he was in Tibet, he encountered an accident, then was busy filming series and the tumors started producing changes. The largest tumor was as big as an egg.

Wong He has already been discharged from the hospital and is currently at home resting. During a telephone interview, Wong He expressed: "Right now I have more than 10, 1 inch long wounds on the ventrodorsal. All the wounds combined makes a foot long. The doctor prescribed me with painkillers because of my many wounds, so now I don't feel much pain. But, because I had general anesthesia for the surgery, I feel out of it now." Asked if about his heredity, are they benign tumors? He said: "Not sure yet, still testing." He also said that some tumors were very small and has no changes yet, so were not removed.

Stephen Chan and Wong He served as "Life Ambassadors" to attend a vegetarian restaurant donation event. At first, Stephen clearly did not want to do any interviews, but for the small questions, Wong He answered on his behalf. When asked if he's only appearing in public because of charity work? Wong He answers on his behalf: "Every person of HK is responsible to do this voluntary work, as part of TVB, we don't need approval, we don't need someone to tell us to do it."

Asked if Wong He thought of committing suicide due to frustration? He frankly said no, the Stephen besides him expressed that when there's troubles it is important to share with family and friends. When asked of Stephen's current condition, Wong He answers again on his behalf that Mr. Chan is full of positive energy, he didn't have a down time. He also said that Stephen has very high EQ, even if he has mood swings, he can quickly fix it and has the ability to help others.

Yesterday Wong Hei appeared at a promotional event as the spokesperson for "Adams Men's Beauty & Slimming Centre". He reveals that he is happy receiving 6 figures in the last two years from the endorsement. Also, in a few months he went from 180 pounds to 154 pounds. Wong He felt that this body figure is the most fit. Asked if he'll do a photo book to keep for memories? He said: "There has been offers, leave it to my manager to discuss it. Wong He had just finished his jobs in Mainland and rushed back to Hong Kong, it was only seen that as soon as he got out of the car, he immediately opened up an umbrella for good buddy Stephen. Once a TVB popular person, after Stephen got involved with corruption, his favorites have not appeared in public with him, except for Wong He who has been seen to be very loyal to him. Yesterday after he sent Mr. Chan home and settled him, he immediately went out in the rain to the Buddha in Lantau Island to pray for his good friend. Wong He's trip to Lantau Island was full of twists and turns, because of heavy winds, the cable car had to stop its operation, but Wong He insisted on going as he switched to bus. When he got up to Lantau Island, he learned that the area was temporarily closed. Wonder if Wong He's sincerity touched the Heavens, but after 30 minutes of closure the gates suddenly re-opened. Wong He rushed in and prayed on the ground by the Buddha's foot hoping to bless his good friend.

For his good friend, Wong He can ignore the hardships, he said: "Will try my best to do things that I personally think is right. Do what a friend does, not worth the praise. (Many people aren't seen here?) Perhaps they already done it and we didn't know about it. I am rather direct, actually for the last half year I really appreciate Mr. Chan giving me the opportunity to treat him well. It has been rough the last half year, after this incident, it really puts a big challenge on our friendship. I asked myself before how much can I do for this friend? This is a deep question, I thought about it for a long time. I think the most extreme was when I thought about selling my flat to help him with the lawsuits. (Not worried that this will affect your relationship with TVB?) Don't worry about something that hasn't happened. Mr. Chan and I are personal, TVB is my employer. (How is Mr. Chan feeling now?) Not much of a difference from usual days, no mood swings. It's not just me that is treating Mr. Chan well, there are many others who told me to send their regards to him."

Earlier TVB General Manager Stephen Chan was arrested for a corruption case, his good artist friend Wong He has been very supportive of him every since. Wong He helped him buy pomelo leaves, prayed for him and helped maintain his reputation. He is seriously a good friend. To this, as most people know Wong He used to work as a police officer before entering the industry. It turns out that he wasn't just simply a police officer, he was even involved in a case where someone attempted to murder the police, managing to  save two officers in a semi-coma. The police department recently plans to publish a book where they recognize 10 of their heroic colleagues. The book will record the details of the good deeds those 10 officers done, including Wong He's heroic event of saving two officers.

In TVB series [Burning Flames], Wong He plays a heroic firefighter who has left deep impressions on audience. Couldn't believe that even in real life, Wong He is the same hero he plays in the series. It was said that in 1989 when he was still working in the police force, one morning a criminal attempted to murder the police on the 13th floor of a building on Nathan Road. Outside the front door on both sides of the elevator entrance were flammable items. When the police came to investigate of a falsely claimed burglary, a sergeant and 4 officers arrived the scene. Three officers leading the operation including the sergeant were smoked by someone leaving them semi-unconscious. This is when Wong He comes in where he was at a nearby location, once he heard about the incident, he quickly rushed to the crime scene. In the end, he was able to rescue the officers. Wong He even remembers at that time, there was a female officer saw the whole thing from a several floors above. It's no wonder Wong He is so generous in helping his friend out during a time where he's involved in a lawsuit.
