The HK music industry has been sinking in a series of crisis as the TV stations, radio stations and record labels are all in disputes, making it a huge mess in the music scene. Following TVB and HKRIA's royalty disputes, there was EEG and East Asia boycott of RTHK's Awards and now a bomb exploded between Amusic and CRHK.
Relies on Relationships for Awards, leads to speculations
It was understood, Amusic was not satisifed with Janice and JW's duet What Men Believe being a popular song and got two awards 'Song of the Year' and 'Duet Song' awards at the Metro Radio Hits Music Award, but got no recognition at the Chik Chak awards presentation. As for newcomer king JW, she lost in popularity to C AllStar, Sugar Club and Phil Lam. No wonder Amusic felt displeased. On contrast, Universal Music singers got 10 awards due to the relationship between CRHK's Assistant GM and Universal's Executive VP.
For getting nothing at Chik Chak, Amusic decided to show some colors and stop giving songs to CRHK to play on their radio station and will not send their singers to attend their events. It is a matter of "If there is you, there is no me". The media contacted Leon Lai to confirm, he said: "I hope everyone can just focus on their own work, don't hurt other people." Although he did not respond to the rumors, his words appears to be have a tone of dissatisfaction.
Amusic Chairman (Kevin Wong) admitted to [Oriental Daily]: "We won't collaborate with CRHK again, won't participate in CRHK's events and won't send out our singers to go on their radio station because our paths are different. CRHK is just all about the relationships, every media has their own administration. Amusic has no right to change the media's administration. Since our singers does not get broadcast or not get a good broadcast, then we can only choose other channels for promotions. (Boycott for a period of time?) It's hard to say, for now just looking at the present. (Leon Lai instructed this?) It is company's policy." As for January 7th's "RTHK Top 10 Chinese Gold Song Music Award Presentation", he expressed that Amusic belongs under East Asia, so they will not be attending.
CRHK: Won't Force It
As for CRHK's GM (Kam Jing Jing) admitted last night at the Chik Chak Awards celebration that they invited all singers to attend the award presentation. Asked if Amusic had no response? She said: "They said their artists couldn't make it, so we won't force it." Asked if they were unhappy about it? She said: "Other record labels also didn't have all their artists come, perhaps the results to our awards presentation was easy to guess, so they already estimated who won." Asked if she's worried other record labels will do the same next year? She said: "It's hard to be worried about that, at present time the HK music scene is a mess."
