After the story came out yesterday, Ray Lui’s wife Yang Xiao Juan held a joint press conference with her husband’s younger brother Lui Liang Kwok, his older sister Lui Liang Mei, and the “2 daughters” Lui Sin Ying and Lui Sin Ting that the magazine claimed were Ray’s. It turns out that the story printed by Next Media is completely false, as Sin Ying and Sin Ting are the daughters of Ray’s brother Lui Liang Kwok and his ex-wife Cheung Tong Yan (the “Ah Yan” named in the story), which means that the 2 girls are Ray’s nieces, not his daughters. The 2 nieces brought along their birth certificates to show to the Media, along with their parents’ wedding pictures as well as a bunch of other family pictures to prove that Ray Lui is not their father, but rather their Uncle.
During the press conference, Ray’s wife Yang Xiao Juan angrily condemned the magazine for printing the false story and impacting their family: “I am extremely upset, as this severely impacts my husband’s integrity as well as ruins his image – it also impacts our entire extended family! My son (Lui Sin Yeung) was crying when he spoke to his Dad on the phone – he still needs to face his classmates in school! The story that the magazine printed is extremely ridiculous and deceitful – the truth is that the 2 girls are Ray’s nieces..in fact, we all even lived together at one point. The most ridiculous thing is that the so-called reporter never sought confirmation from me and didn’t even bother to use the word ‘rumored’. If you look back at a lot of the HK gossip news, this one must be the most ridiculous! What upset me the most is that the magazine falsely said that I knew about the issue [the ‘claim that Ray had 2 daughters] a long time ago and purposefully asked Ray’s brother to ‘cover it up’ by claiming to be the father! How is it possible that they [the magazine] could say something so irresponsible and immoral?!”
Yang Xiao Juan also stated that her husband has been in the industry for almost 30 years and has worked hard to build his career and image – this situation severely affects his image by making him out to be an ‘irresponsible man’. She and the rest of the family will be taking legal action against the magazine – first they are demanding an apology for the false story and the rest will be turned over to a lawyer to handle. A lawyer who was present with the family during the press conference indicated that he is looking into the matter.
One of the nieces, Lui Sin Ying, was quoted in the magazine story as ‘confirming’ that Ray Lui was her father. To this, she clarified during the press conference: “The reporter only asked me whether ‘Ah Yan’ is my mother, to which I responded ‘Yes, she is. Why?’ The reporter never asked me whether Ray Lui was my father, yet when the ‘story’ came out, my words were completely twisted around. The reporter also asked me whether I like watching my Dad’s series, to which I stated ‘Yes I do!’” Sin Ying’s dad Lui Liang Kwok then stated: “I am actually a graduate of ATV’s first Acting Class and participated in numerous series for the station, playing many different characters. The station recently re-aired a few of the series and my daughter saw my performances in there. That’s why she replied that she liked watching my series!”
The family emphasized that the false story has negatively impacted them. In fact, Lui Liang Kwok’s ex-wife Ah Yan, who was supposed to attend the press conference with them, could not come because throngs of reporters were surrounding her home and her shop, so she was afraid to step outside.
After the press conference, Oriental Daily’s reporter contacted Ray Lui by phone, who was filming on location in Hengdian. Ray denounced the false story printed by the magazine: “They didn’t have any evidence and they also did not bother to ‘verify’ with anyone! The entire report is wrong! I am absolutely going to sue them! I have already talked to my wife over the phone and she is already in discussions with our lawyer. The magazine tried to make a story out of nothing and completely distorted the truth – very irresponsible and ridiculous and also affects my family life as well as my image! I am just a normal actor, there is no need for them to do this kind of thing! Friends who know me very well – such as Kam Jie [god-mother Lee Heung Kam] and Kent Gor [fellow actor and friend Kent Cheng] know the truth!” Ray also indicated that deceiving others is not his style and this time, the magazine really crossed the line, so he feels the need to seek justice for himself and his family: “It’s not the first time that those magazines print rubbish! Why is it that the government never takes any action? Very unfair!” He also felt that this situation was no different from putting poison in people’s food to harm them – the only thing is that the magazines use their ‘sensationalized thoughts’ to harm people: “Truly very immoral!!”
After the call, our reporter also researched the Weibo postings of the other niece Lui Sin Ting. Back in May, Sin Ting had uploaded a picture of herself and Ray Lui on her Weibo – the caption with the picture read: “A photo of Uncle Ray and myself.”
