Michelle said that she and Chinese actress Monica Mok visited M on the Bund for drinks, and were snubbed by the service staff.
She said on Weibo, “The service is really bad! After finishing our dinner, we were not allowed to walk in for drinks at 9 pm. The attitude was even fierce and told us, “If you go in now, each person has to order a main dish with a minimum spending of RMB 600. Are you able to afford?”
Michelle even posted a photo with Monica and teased her, “Monica Mok, don’t tell me it was because you were dressing like a beggar?”
After receiving many criticisms from the netizens, the restaurant has since apologised to Michelle.
The restaurant owner released a statement on its Weibo and said that the comment was not from a staff of the restaurant, and was someone associated with its agency.
“I am also extremely sorry for any misunderstanding on the evening you were in the restaurant. Our policy is that everyone is welcome and there is no minimum spend, although the restaurant is reserved for diners between 6-10 pm. I would like to invite you and your friends to M on the Bund for dinner as my guests, as a gesture of very sincere and deep apology.”
