Police in China have a list of top Chinese actors suspected of drug abuse. The list, which has not been made public, includes award-winning actors, actresses and directors. After Max Mok and Coco Sun -entertainers from Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively -were detained for using illegal drugs, media said the incident is "the tip of the iceberg". Sun even told police his drug supplier was an influential individual in the CHinese showbiz industry. Many stars used to be named ambassadors by the authorities and promoted the importance of not using drugs, but we usually have no idea whether they are role models. As public figures, they have a big influence on fans and today's young people. We don't say it's wrong to adore entertainers but the support should not be blind. Xie Dong (a pop singer) has been detained three times for using drugs, but there is still a record company willing to sign a contract with him. Man Wenjun (another singer) was detained for using drugs, but less than six months later his new single was back in the pop charts. Some movie directors are known for drug use but the box offices are still good. We can't deny our society is too tolerant to these celebrities.
