"I like shooting modern series, earlier Heart of Greed and Moonlight Resonance were big hits, which proves modern series give people resonance." Michelle saw Coffee Cat Mama is a comedy that brings out several family stories and she loved it: "The audience can watch from the TV screen, the people relations, learn the wisdom of the world and regardless of the status, whether if the mother, father, child or mother-in-law, you will bound to encounter different problems in life."
One meaning of the so-called "Coffee Cat Mama" is being despicable. In the series, Michelle balances between work and being a single mother, she's forced to be despicable. "At work, I keep an eye on the financial books and fire people. At home, my husband and I were divorced, but we still had a subtle relationship. I had to raise my two daughters alone, and have high expectations and hopes on them. I've always been someone who would do anything for my daughters, but then forget what they truly need."
Integrate with the Younger Generation
Michelle continued: "I had a great time filming this series. First, its a light-hearted comedy, unlike The Confidant which was very heavy and too many difficult lines that got me nervous. Secondly, the other cast members were wonderful. I'm very familiar with Nancy Wu and Bosco (Wong). This is my first time collaborating with Jerry Koo and also my two daughters Heung Heung (Eliza Sam) and Regan (Cheung). Our performance was very natural and real. Different generations have different acting styles. I really enjoyed acting with them and learning from them." Michelle has been in the industry for over 40 years, she started off in an acting training class with Shaw Brothers and went through three different TV stations. She is well experienced and definitely more qualified than anyone, but Michelle still retains a learning mentality towards her work.
"Mentality is very important. I'm getting more and more energetic. In the past when I first debuted, I just enjoyed acting and using imaginations, it was fun. But I slowly learned there are different levels to it, such as studying the script, reading books to prepare and saying my lines. Even the hairstyle can cause a big impact. There are different filming styles, I even learned about lighting and producing. I'm getting exposed to all of it, so I'm getting more and more excited."
Michelle is anticipating for new work and good scripts: "TVB has many different scripts and genres, just as long as time allows, I will try to make time on my schedule. The Coffee Cat Mama script was written very carefully. I've worked with producer Nelson Cheung before, I'm grateful he gave me a youthful role in Season of Fate, it was not only a lot of fun, but also an opportunity I'll never get again!"
